The classic Sloppy Joes recipe with ground beef and a sweet and tangy sauce is always a family favorite.
It had been so long since I made this Sloppy Joes Recipe that I think I forgot how absolutely delicious it is. It is really a pretty basic recipe. There is nothing fancy here. Just the simple combination of ground beef with a slightly sweet and tangy sauce that has been making kids (and grown ups) happy for decades. It is actually the perfect meal for a busy weeknight. I like to make it when the kids have some sports practice or after school event that has us running around since it honestly does take less than 20 minutes to make. You can’t get take out in that amount of time!
Believe it or not, it really does not take much time to mix up your own sloppy joes sauce with stuff you may already have in your kitchen. Most of the ingredients are pantry staples. I have never even tried the canned sauce because this is such a quick and simple recipe. I remember the first time I made my Sloppy Joes, my son asked it we could have it every week! So this recipe is a great one to keep in my rotation!
This Sloppy Joes Recipe is a great one pot dish. Simply start by browning about a pound of ground beef in a pan along with some onion, garlic and green pepper. About 5 minutes later, when the beef is cooked and the onion is translucent, add the sauce ingredients. There is really no need to mix the sauce in a separate bowl. I mean, really, why dirty an extra bowl when you don’t need to? The base of the sauce is a small can of tomato sauce, some ketchup and a bit of mustard. Add that to the pan with brown sugar Worcestershire sauce and a dash of vinegar. Stir it up to combine everything and about about 5 or so minutes later, dinner is ready.
I like to serve my Sloppy Joes on a nice, soft roll, either a bulky roll or a hamburger bun will do. But it is also really good on top of a baked potato. With a little bit of cheese, yum! I hope your family will love this recipe as much as mine does!
